A Public Service Announcement from your friend, Derek Brown

Everybody, look at the light bulbs above this sentence. Those are Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs), which most Americans still aren’t using. This is very silly since CFLs use much less energy and last much longer. Since they use less energy, they will cost you less on your electric bill than a normal light bulb, and it is better for the environment since less natural gas is being burned to make it happen. They also save you plenty of money because they last much longer than normal light bulbs. The ones above last up to nine years. Think about how many times you have to buy light bulbs and then change them in one year. Pretty cool. They’re also brighter. See the part that says “$184.00”? Don’t worry, that’s not the price of each bulb. That’s how much money you’re saving a year with a single bulb.
So your best buddy Derek Brown is begging you to switch to these light bulbs completely, but there’s one catch: these light bulbs contain mercury, which we don’t want in landfills. It’s very bad for the environment. So when you get these light bulbs, and after 9 years when they go out, please don’t throw them in the trash, or you’re messing up the environmental safety net you just set up. Please send them to the company who manufactures these light bulbs and they’ll dispose of them properly. Or you can look for hardware stores, such as Home Depot, who will also take them off your hands. But you have nine years before you have to worry about that.
So please use no light bulbs other than CFLs. You’ll be happy, and the Earth will be happy. Thank you.
